At this point in time in my life, most of my recreation is passive. I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week for time on the treadmill and elliptical walker. But, recreation is watching baseball or football on television — going to a movie with friends — going out to dinner — taking a trip —- going to the symphony.
However, the efforts of re-creation are ongoing. We all need time for re-creation. This is our Sabbath time — for many this may be on Sunday which will include time for worship. For others, time for re-creation comes on Monday with sleeping late, going through the day without haste or obligation.
For others, re-creation is a round of golf …. with one or two friends …. no serious talk, lots of banter and laughter …. no pressure to WIN.
For others, re-creation means going to a quiet place by oneself — listening, breathing deep, taking time away from everyone and everything.
For me — a part of this summer’s re-creation is the realization that no one is putting pressure on me to do anything … the pressure is coming from myself …. and I can step back and say S – L – 0 – W down.
The so-called experience of “smelling the coffee” or “smelling the roses” means breathing deep to sense the world around us.
For me … this means no blogging for a few weeks …. it means taking time away from all work …. realizing that others can and will do what I think I have to do … being with friends and family ….. and simply ENJOYING WHAT IS.
I hope you have time for re-creation.

Thanks Fr. Henry. I wouldn’t have thought so, but I guess I needed permission to enjoy what is.
Peace,
